Epoch Rewards: When They Land and Why Timing Varies

Solana divides time into epochs, each lasting roughly two to three days depending on network conditions. Rewards accrue continuously during an epoch but are credited to stake accounts at the epoch boundary.

If you delegate midway through an epoch, you earn rewards only for the portion of that epoch during which your stake was active. The first reward may appear smaller than expected — this is normal, not an error.

Reward amounts fluctuate with total network stake, inflation rate, and your validator's performance. Comparing your rewards to a friend's without matching delegation timing and validator choice produces misleading conclusions.

We recommend tracking rewards over at least three full epochs before drawing conclusions about validator performance.
